A 24" x 30" canvas with a 1" profile.

As a young child, you imagine what your life would be like in the future.

Your parents read fables and bedtime stories to you as you wonder if your future would be like  that--the cookie-cutter "Leave It To Beaver" childhood, your informative years in high school. Did you ever think they would be any different? What about your fairy-tale wedding? Did you marry the woman or the man who you would live the rest of your life with? Of course, we move on to children. Every woman reads what is expected during childbirth; you had no difference to think otherwise.

This mixed media piece is shown on the left as black and white--what we thought our life was going to turn out like. The goals and roads we paved to get to that point we could finally say that we succeeded in life. The right side, and the balloons, all represent that our milestones in life are unpredictable.

Some balloons--or life's expectations--are clearly in the black and white. You knew what you wanted. You didn't let anything stand in your way. You succeeded. The balloons on the right say that life is unpredictable. You didn't expect your first marriage to end up in such a tragic way. You didn't expect that your child would be born premature with complications--you envisioned a healthy, pink baby while passing by the nursery. Not a premature infant with wires attached to it with its chest rising and falling in order to catch its breath.

You envisioned a life of health and happiness. Did that turn out the way you anticipated?

Some of life's milestones that are unpredictable just couldn't be handled and were beyond your control. Those balloons are in the distance.

Let them float away. Sometimes it's better to let things go that are beyond our control.
