When I was doing this piece, the same little shop in Paia, Maui came popping into my head. It's right along Hana Highway and across from Charlie's Restaurant and Rock n Brew. Indigo is its name, and they sell primarily textiles: rugs, drapes, handmade woven jewelry.
I textured this 16" x 12" 1" profile piece with molding paste using a comb. I have a number of different combs that I can use, but felt that the width of this one was best to represent a form of tapestry, or hand woven, colorful piece.
Once the paste was hard I began to use a combination of deep purple, reds, and yellow. The final touch was placing some Aztec gold on the art in just the right places.
The finish is a high gloss varnish and is ready to hang. A colorful and unique piece, it can be placed anywhere you want and would look awesome against a gray wall.
